This eastern seaboard province is blessed
with an abundance of nature beauty that includes fine beaches, national
parks and beautiful,
tranquil islands, such as Koh Samet and Koh Man. It has a well deserved
reputation for producing seafood products such as shrimp paste,
fish sauce and dried seafoods, and tropical fruits of which rambutan,
mangosteen and durian are the most famous. After Ayutthaya was sacked
by the Burmese, the nobleman Phraya Taksin regrouped with remaining
patriots in Rayong to successfully reclaim the capital back and
set up a new capital in Thonburi.
