Situated on the banks of the Bang Pakong River,
Wat Sothon Wararam houses the highly revered Luang
Phor Sothon Buddha image. Religious followers come
to the
temple
to seek favors in the form of financial wealth and
health from the Lanna-style Buddha image. In return,
dancers attired in elaborate classical costumes
are hired to perform for the resident spirits.
An interesting attraction at Wat Pho Bang Kla is
the large group of thousands of bats hanging inverted
from large trees on the compound during the daytime.
The Mae Kai (mother hen) bats have black-colored
wings, brown furs, red cheeks, and wolverine facial
features of small nose and ears, but large eyes.
At dusk, these fruit-eating mammals set off in search
of food.
Khao Hin Sorn’s unique appearance resembles
a random piling of large, smooth, white sandy rocks
on top of each other, thus its name. Around the
area is a temple of the same name and the well-manicured
Somdej Phra Pinklao Park.
The Khao Hin Sorn Research and Development Center
was established by King Rama IX, the present monarch,
with the objective to experiment and study in the
area of growth of different flora and fauna species,
fishery, and animal preservation.
Khao Ang Ranai Wildlife Sanctuary encompasses a
large area that extends into 5 provinces. It contains
the last well-preserved tropical forest of the eastern
region and is the origin of the Bangpakong River
and the Prasae River in Rayong. The park’s
main attraction is the Ang Ranai Waterfall.
