The
Ko Chang Yutthanavi Day (Wednesday,
January 17, 2007)
The
Ko Chang Yutthanavi Day On January
17-21 at the Ko Chang Yutthanavi Memorial in Laem Ngop. The
event is to commemorate the bravery of the Royal Thai Navy's action
against the French on January 17, 1941. Merit-making and tribute
rites are performed and there is an exhibition by the Royal Thai
Navy. Anticipate the firing of guns.
Trat
Independence Day
On March 23-27 at the city hall’s
front yard. March 23, 1906 was when Trat was liberated.
During his reign, King Rama V made a treaty with France granting
Trat and Patchantakiri (Ko Kong) to the country in exchange with
French troop’s manoeuvre off Chantaburi Province. Later,
on March 23, 1906 the King had to grant Pratabong, Siem Reap and
Sri Sophon to France in exchange with Trat Province and islands
and towns on the right bank of Mekong. In the fair, King Rama
V Commemorative Parade, the exhibition featuring history of Trat
and Lung Aan Saim Dog Competition will be held. Agricultural
and local products, cultural performance and entertainments will
be on view as well.
Songkran
Festival (13-15 Apr)
The traditional Thai New Year, joyfully celebrated throughout the
country with rituals of merit making, cleaning houses, honouring
elders, parades of dancers and music troupes, and boat races. What
makes the festival most interesting is
water splashing, an amusing way to make you cool in the hot season.
It is celebrated in a grand way in Chiang Mai and at Phra Pradaeng
near Bangkok.
Trat
Fruit Fair
Trat Fruit Fair , usually in late May or early June, features
exhibitions and agricultural produce. There fruit contests, particularly
of sweet Salak (or Rakam)
Loy
Krathong or Festival of Light (11 Nov, the full-moon day)
The romantic night festival, people gather at the waterside to float
krathongs, lotus-shaped vessels lovely decorated with flowers and
lit candles, as a thanksgiving and worship to the Goddess of Water.
Magnificent celebrations are held in Sukhothai and Chiang Mai.
